Theatrical Works

I became involved with theater because of the nature of collaboration with others.  I worked with a limited group of individuals who gave me great freedom for creativity and involvement. It enriched my imagery and visual ideas beyond what I could attain in the studio by myself. I did not “job myself out” in a top-down collaborative structure. Rather, I would bring my ideas into the project as “toys” for others to play with and respond to, often unpredictable results producing fresh ideas. These collaborations were free play exchanges, growing ideas organically that were similar to my studio practice where exploration finds resolution. It gave me a different outlook as objects and structures become animated sculptures. My masks are the result of this approach to theater. I found myself working for two different audiences, one was the performers themselves and the other was the actual viewing audience as the line separating puppet and mask blurred together
